Samsung started rolling the December security update in its 2016 and 2017 models. Previously, we communicated about S series S6, S8, S8+, A series, J series and Galaxy Note series receiving the update. The next-in-the-line handset to receive the update is Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017).
What is the update offering? With the patch, Samsung brings fixes for 11 critical vulnerabilities that were discovered in the Android operating system. Additionally, it also fixes 10 vulnerabilities discovered in Samsung’s own software as well. Apart from these, there is not much in the way of new features to be expected from this update. It is only a security maintenance release to address the security issues and performance issues.
You can check the arrival of the update in your Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) manually. For this, you will have to open Settings, then click on Software update menu. Samsung is rolling out firmware version A720FXXU2BQL9 for the Galaxy A7 (2017) in Mexico. So if available, you can download the update manually. It may take a while for the update to become available in all regions, it should not take more than a few days.
A few points to keep in mind while downloading is, the device should have sufficient power or should be connected to a power source. Also, prefer downloading the update over Wifi rather data package.
Currently, Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) runs on Android 7.0 Nougat. So, Users waiting for a Android 8.0 Oreo will have to wait a little longer, as Samsung has not released any official statement of its distribution.
