Reliance JioPhone has received a great response from its users since the time of its launch. Millions of people have already pre-ordered the JioPhone and the shipment process for it began post Diwali. But now, Reliance Jio has reportedly stopped with further JioPhone production and is now eyeing to bring affordable Android 4G feature phone to compete with Airtel and Vodafone.
As per a report from FactorDaily, the production process of JioPhone has stopped now as Reliance Jio is now focussing on getting an Android device. It may be noted that the JioPhone works on KaiOS which is a version of thee Firefox OS. Reports say that there are not much apps compatible with the KaiOS in the JioPhone which is a major reason why the company plans to switch over to Android. The JioPhone does not support Facebook, WhatsApp and many other popular apps.
According to reports, Reliance Jio is now in talking terms with Google and Facebook to bring the versions off Facebook, WhatsApp and Youtube to the JioPhone. But still there is no official word on whether Jio will discontinue the JioPhone after the Android based phone is launched by the company. An executive working for Jio said that the company will manufacture around 10 million JioPhones which means that those who have pre-ordered the device will soon get it.
There is no detail on the pricing strategy that the company will follow for its Android smartphone. With the competitors like Airtel launching cheap 4G handset like Karbonn A40 Indian and Vodafone launching he Micromax Bharat 2 Ultra, Jio will surely bring out a device with an effective pricing scheme. It is most likely that the Android based Jio phone will come with Google Android Go OS, which is version of the Android 8.0 Oreo OS for entry level smartphones. With the Android Go OS, Jio will be able to expand its reach further to the masses of the country.
