On its 40th Annual General Meeting, Reliance Industries subsidiary Jio came up with its almost ‘zero cost’ JioPhone on July 22.
The phone’s target customers are the people who use 2G mobile handsets and because of which are unable to avail the 4G benefits of Reliance Jio.
The company has promised to offer the phone free of cost but a security deposit of Rs 1500 need to be submitted which as the company says will be refunded after 3 years. According to Reliance the reason behind collecting this security deposit is to avoid the misuse of these phones as they are free of cost.
The JioPhone has a 2.4-inch screen with QVGA display and has an alphanumeric keypad. The phone is powered by a Qualcomm 205 mobile platform which is essentially designed to provide 4G LTE connectivity to the phones The phone is data enabled and Jio data will come integrated with the phone. The phone also comes with voice command control feature using which we can talk and tell the phone to do tasks like making a call or run an app or search for something.
The data package offered along with the phone is of cost Rs 153 for unlimited data usage. The voice calls will be free for ever, similar to the plans for smartphone users.
But if the users find this offer of Rs 153 unaffordable every month there is still something for them. Reliance has also come up with two sachet packets, which would be comparatively very affordable for the users.
These packs are of value Rs 24 and Rs 54 which will offer all the solutions for 2 days and 1 week respectively.
