Reliance Jio Hits 16 Crore Subscribers Mark; Airtel Still Holds the First Position

Ever since the Jio has stepped foot in the highly competitive telecom sector, it has always marked some milestones. Today during the gala event celebrating the 40 years of the company's establishment, Akash Ambani, son of billionaire Mukesh Ambani talked about the current subscription base of the company with Jio at an interaction with Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan.

The 52-year-old actor mentioned that Jio now has 100 million subscribers. He corrected him by saying “160 million, SRK!”, in turn, prompting the ‘Badshah of Bollywood’ to take a dig at just how good the Ambanis were with numbers. As per the news, the customer base of Reliance Jio has touched 160 million which is a huge mark for the company which is just a year old.

The Jio was launched in September 2016 with the promotional strategy of unlimited voice and data uses for six months through which the company managed to allure its customer base and now here we are with this figure.

Now looking figuratively, as per last published data by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, the subscriber base in October for Bharti Airtel comes at top 285 million, then comes Vodafone with 208 million users base followed by Idea Cellular (191 million), and Jio (145.9 million). Now for today, the Reliance Jio subscriber base at 160 million, with Airtel still leading the game.

India is the largest telecom sector market after China with the base users of 1.1 billion with Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular as the top three operators.
