Reliance Jio Data Leaker, Imran Chhimpa, who was arrested by Mumbai Police from his resident at Rajasthan, has confessed that we wanted to create a User’s Data ‘Search Engine’ with the leaked data.
Chhimpa had planned to compile and publish all the user data from all telecom operators across India. Unfortunately he wasn’t able to access the same. While studying Computer Application, he had gathered a retailer’s user ID, using which he had managed to collect a certain amount of customer data.
The Maharashtra Cyber Department has said that the accused did no attempt to hide his deeds on digital trials. He has also confessed that he could not gather all the customer data. The data that was available in the search engine was probably because the customer’s phone was active during the hour.
Chhimpa wanted to create a search engine which would generate customer information of all users belonging to each and every telecom service provider. He did not know the ways to gain an access to all of them. He did not download data directly from the server, but he had accessed them illegally.
The Police Department is further interrogating to know the purpose behind his having the number of SIM cards that have been taken into account from his resident.
A leak of customer data is inclusive of the personal details like the email address, phone numbers, and address proof. This in a way questions the security profile of our telecom system. Reliance Jio has however stated the incident as ‘unsubstantial claims.
