If you were among-st the list of people thinking that OnePlus 2 handset is outdated, then read on. OnePlus manufacturers did not provide the Nougat update to the OnePlus 2 users. However, they did want to disappoint the OnePlus 2 users. The OnePlus 2 handset is receiving a new update along with October Security Patch. The new update brings the Oxygen OS (version 3.6.1).
The new update helps in solving two major problems. Firstly, some of the Android devices were susceptible to attack by WPA2’s vulnerability (known as KRACK). They were vulnerable to attack from hackers as they could gain usernames and passwords of any network based on LAN or WiFi, thus leading to data leakage. However, with the new update, the exploitation issue is fixed.
Secondly, OnePlus 2 did not receive OTA updates generally. But now, OnePlus is bringing its updated version of OxygenOS 3.6.1 to the handset. Besides this, another important point here for the OnePlus 2 users is the Security Patch Level. It is brought up to October 2017 (which includes the patches for KRACK). Additionally, the update fixes some general bugs and offers improvements as well.
On the contrary, the handsets running on Android 8.0 Oreo Beta already have this patch. This includes OnePlus 3 and 3T. It brings Open Beta up to version 26 for the OnePlus 3 and to version 17 for the OnePlus 3T. Although, this OS had issues, but after the Users Feedback, improvements in Wifi, data connectivity, NFC have been done.
However, this year’s flagship handset, OnePlus 5 is yet to receive the October Security patch. It is still running on September Security Patch.
Lastly, if the OTA did not hit your device, go to Settings and check for updates.
