BSNL Would Launch in-flight Connectivity Within a Year: Reports

Flying through flights can be a bit boring when you do not have internet or Wifi connectivity. You cannot check up on social media, you cannot send messages, you can neither check your emails or do work which requires an internet connection.

I am pretty sure most of us have missed a Wifi connection while traveling through an airplane.

Well BSNL has come to our rescue, the company along with International Mobile Satellite Organization (Inmarsat) has decided to offer connectivity to people and according to reports, within a year, Indian flyers will be able to access the internet and be able browse social media sites such as Facebook and Instagram while traveling through the air. Though internet based calls will still not be allowed.

BSNL Chairman Anupam Shrivastava has revealed: “In about a year’s time, we will open satellite phone services to private companies and persons, as well as offer Internet facility on flights and ships.”

There will be Wifi routers installed which would connect to the antennas of the nearest satellites. The Ministry of Home Affairs and the Department of Telecommunication (DoT) has also approved the project and tariff plans will be rolled off once the regulatory approvals are on board.

Among Indian airlines, in-flight connectivity is currently available only for defense personnel while foreign airlines have been offering in-flight WiFi services on both domestic and international destinations.
