Tim Cook finally took the covers off the much awaited and highly anticipated iPhone 8 & iPhone 8 Plus. In an official ceremony held at Apple Headquarters, the phones were launched on September 12. The new devices will feature faster processors, a True Tone display, and an up-gradation in camera quality.
The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will sport metal and glass bodies. Moreover, they will come in two storage variants – 64 GB and 256 GB. The shipments arrive on September 22, but residents of US, UK, China, Australia and 25 other countries will be able to pre-book the device from September 15 onwards. However, the buyers in India will have to wait till September 29.
On the pricing front, the iPhone 8 will start from Rs. 64,000 for the 64 GB variant and the 256GB model will cost Rs. 77,000, in India. Similarly, the iPhone 8 Plus will sport a price tag of Rs. 73,000 for the 64 GB variant and the other 256 GB model will cost Rs. 86,000.
Looking at the specifications of the iPhone 8 & iPhone 8 Plus. This is the first time when Apple is introducing Wireless Charging. The company is relying on Qi’s wireless standard. This will help users to charge the iPhone without having to plug in a cable. To incorporate this feature, the company is apparently going back to the delicate Glass body design as inductive wireless charging does not work with the aluminum shell.
Besides this, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will run on A11 Bionic SoC six-core processors and improved GPU. This is 30 percent more efficient than the previous year’s GPUs. Moreover, the new SoC and GPU will help the handsets to perform complex tasks such as video encoding at a much faster rate.
Additionally, Apple’s iPhone 8 & iPhone 8 Plus shows improved display line. Users will be able to experience the True Tone technology, currently available on the 10.5-inch iPad Pro. With this feature, the screen will automatically adjust to the ambient light in the room. Hence, offering more accurate colors. Furthermore, the iPhone 8 will come in three color: Silver, Space Gray, and Gold Finish.
On the optics front, iPhone 8 will flaunt a single 12-megapixel lens that is faster, and offers optical image stabilization. On the other hand, the iPhone 8 Plus will feature two rear cameras of 12 megapixel each and an aperture of f/1.8 and f/2.8. Moreover, the dual cameras offer Portrait Lighting that adjusts the lighting for portrait shots. And improvements in the video can be seen as well. The new devices will support 4K shooting with 60fps. The Slow motion videos will now support up to 1080p resolution at 240fps.
An additional feature in the iPhone 8 is the augmented reality. This is the first time, a smartphone is featuring this, and iPhone 8 will come with calibrated cameras for AR. Along with this, is a new gyroscope and accelerometer that will improve motion tracking.
