Amidst the ongoing anticipation for the release of Google’s new flagships, there is yet another news adding to the wait for it.
The USB-C charging and data ports of the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are expected to be more versatile than before. Google engineer Benson Leung, the hand behind saving us from the crappy USB-C cables, says that the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL support up to 27-Watt charging.
According to Leung, the smartphones currently in the markets have an 18-Watt USB-C PD charger, which means a charger claiming for 27-W USB-C Power Delivery charging mode (look for both “PD” and “9V/3A”), will be required for faster speeds in charging the battery.
The performance capability of 27W charging is still doubtful, but still Google advertises that the power adapter provides 7 hours of battery life after just 15 minutes of charging made to it, which is indeed very fast.
Point to be noted, Leung updated few more information regarding the 27W charging saying that this feature isn’t supported at all. According to the post,
“I’d like to clarify this post as Pixel 2 and 2 XL will not be able to support 27W charging. While the phones may be able to negotiate more power using USB Power Delivery when connected to a higher wattage charger, there are other factors which may limit the speed at which it charges the battery. The included 18W charger in the box will provide optimal charging for Pixel 2 and 2 XL. Sorry for the confusion!”
Recently, there was news about the Google Pixel 2 and 2 XL of not having the headphone jacks. Now, this new feature of fast charging makes it one of the most awaited smartphone.
